My Immunotherapy Update

Greetings from Peru!!!

My Immunotherapy Update. As many of you already know, in May-2017 I visited Peru to start a new cancer therapy. I am seeing Dr. Cesar Nunez, a conventionally-trained MD and scientist researcher, who has chosen to work in the field of immunotherapy with cancer patients.

I’ve been on his therapy for about 5 months now and I am now back in Lima Peru for my follow up and second phase of treatment. I’ve been in Lima approximately a week now and I have met Dr. Nunez a couple of times already to draw blood for the therapy (read process from my previous article Here) and of course go over my latest scans and blood work. I’m pleased to inform you that everything is looking TERRIFIC and very encouraging!! Blood flow to the tumor has reduced by 80% and there are signs of calcification. Tumor markers have dropped dramatically and I’m feeling better than ever.

I’m passionate about rationalizing every situation. My inclination is to dive into deep understanding to seek answers and reason with this or that in every area of my life.

Knowing my persistent personality, and my passion to always make sense of things, especially when dealing with cancer, prompted me to courageously proceed to ask Dr. Nunez: “After everything I have done, why is cancer still reflected on my reports?”

I remember once, a close friend diagnosed with pancreatic cancer shared her thoughts in conversation with me about the matter. She said… “Cancer was created by your body for a reason. Isn’t it a good idea to figure out why? What caused you to develop cancer? So you may correct it?” In her reasoning she continued on to ask out loud, “who decided it is a good idea to remove cancer from your body?” Hmmm

I guess I had never looked at it from that perspective. Our bodies were created in perfection; therefore, why would our bodies develop cancer? It is clear to me now that cancer is a multifactorial illness and of course there are a number of elements that have contributed for it to grow undetected. The same way our bodies developed it, I believe, when given the terrain to correct it, our bodies can heal from it.

Dr. Nunez responded so gracefully to my question stating the following:

“Karen, when you came to see me back in May 2017 for the first time to start immunotherapy with me, your reports already showed ‘evidence of disease but not expression of it.’ Today, your ultrasound and blood work reports reflect an even better improvement since May. Ideally we want to have a CLEAR report but no one can guarantee that at all. However, you are definitely in the right direction. Let’s proceed to Phase 2 of your treatment.”

Today, I’m celebrating progress! This is HUGE and VITAL in anyone’s healing journey. Thanks-giving and celebration of progress is a MUST. Sometimes we waste so much energy on focusing on getting that clear report and we forget to enjoy breathe and stay in the moment. I’m not saying we should settle with the idea of living with cancer in our bodies, but what if we focus on truly living today as we work towards our goal?

How about you? Where are you in your healing journey? You don’t necessarily have to have cancer to share your thoughts on this. I truly enjoy reading your feedback and I thank you for your prayers and encouraging messages as you walk along with me in my healing journey.

God bless!

Thank you for sharing. I just found your blog and it has very valuable information. Thank you!
I have a question about bringing the immunotherapy medicine to US; how can we bring the treatment for 5 months? Is there a process to follow in Custom? Thank you!

Hi Wendy, Thank you for your kind words and for reading our blog! Regarding bringing immunotherapy medicine to the US for a 5-month treatment, here are a few key points:
Prescription and Documentation: Ensure you have a prescription and detailed documentation from your healthcare provider.
Customs and FDA Regulations: Check the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) and FDA guidelines for bringing medications into the country. Declare the medication upon arrival and provide necessary documentation.
Professional Advice: Consult with a healthcare professional for personalized advice.
I hope this helps! If you have more questions, feel free to ask.
      Best regards, Karen Berrios
